Torlon®
Turnbuckle
Metal to plastic conversion takes the strain

|
Allegheny Performance Plastics designed and developed this
Torlon̉ Turnbuckle to replace the original navy brass version
on board most Navy ships today. We were given specifications to meet existing strength
requirements, provide superior resistance to corrosion, and to isolate noise interference
to onboard sensitive electronic listening equipment. Allegheny designed and built the
prototype units by machining from extruded Torlon̉ rod stock.
Each Turnbuckle was tested to hold 2,500lbs for a minimum of 15 minutes. Threads were cut
using UNJ rounded roots to reduce the effect of stress raisers. The ultimate load carrying
capability was tested and recorded at a minimum of 6,000lbs. |
