Torlon® Combination Roller/Bushing
Parts consolidation reduces four parts to one.

This patented bushing design is used in the centrifugal transmissions of gasoline powered golf and landscaping utility vehicles. A high wear grade of Torlon® (polyamide-imide) is insert molded within a hardened steel roller to form combination bushing and thrust washer surfaces. This product operates under arduous conditions of high loads, elevated temperature and abrasive dust. Numerous combinations of polymer/steel couples were prototyped and supplied for testing during the development stage to identify the best performer.

The Combination Roller/Bushing offers a number of advantages over the original design of Rexnord® bushing and Vespel® thrust washers. The original design used four components which had to be assembled on the factory floor as the transmission was being built. The new design is supplied as a single component and allows for significantly reduced assembly costs. The original design lasted only half as long as the new version before it had to be replaced because of tolerance issues caused by wear of both the bushing and its mating components. The new design offers longer life and also does not require the replacement of its mating components during maintenance.
