Delrin® Valve Chest
Assembly for Industrial Jack Hammers
and Pavement Breakers
Providing an ultrasonic welded assembly
This three part assembly is supplied complete by Allegheny ready for the customer to
install direct into the air tool. These assemblies are required to work flawlessly in an
incredibly arduous environment where the valve has to operate at 900/1200 reciprocating
cycles per minute, in extremes of temperatures, and be reliable and robust to survive the
tough environments of construction work sites.
Two of the components that make up the assembly are injection molded using DuPont
impact modified Delrin® (Acetal, POM), then because of the stringent tolerances demanded
by the application, they have to be CNC machined on critical features. The valve disc
component is entirely machined from extruded glass reinforced rod stock to hold diameter
and flatness requirements for correct sealing operation. All three components are then
ultrasonically welded together to provide a complete assembly.

Allegheny Performance Plastics was intimately involved at the design stages of these new
air tools so that we could recommend design features for the Valve Chest that would be
functional and manufacturable at economical costs. Further, we supply the complete
assembly from in-house manufacturing resources so that we have tight control of all
processes in the production chain. This way we can directly control quality, delivery lead
times and costs without having to be reliant on outside resources thus giving the customer
just one responsible supplier to work with.
