TorlonÒ, AurumÒ, RytonÒ, and Fluoropolymer Heat Sleeves
and Bushings for Business Machines

Molding materials that take the heat

Heat Sleeves and Bushings are used to thermally insulate the Fuser section from the bearings and surrounding structure of the business machine’s chassis. This is critical due to the high temperature generated by the thermal energy source that heats the Fuser Roll to its required 220° C(428° F). Plastics are ideal thermal insulators but the base resin matrix must of course be able to withstand this elevated temperature for extended periods of time. To satisfy these requirements high continuous use temperature rated resins such as TorlonÒ PAI, AurumÒ TPI, RytonÒ PPS and fluoropolymer PFA are adopted. Generally, these materials have excellent thermal barrier properties and good tribological characteristics to handle the wear conditions involved.

Allegheny Performance Plastics has unrivalled experience in processing all of the high temperature polymeric materials commonly used for these applications. We understand the dimensional considerations and exacting tolerances required to achieve the fit and functionality of the Sleeves/Bushings with the mating Fuser Roll journal and bearing inner diameter. Roundness and consistent wall thickness are critical features so that the Sleeves/Bushings have continuos contact with the Fuser journal and maintain optimal concentricity.
