These high precision, injection molded Torlon̉ (Polyamide-imide) Shaft Spline Adapters were designed to replace
the conventional metallic variety detailed in various military specifications. The purpose
of the Torlon̉ adapter was to reduce cost, eliminate damage to
the spline details on the very expensive PTO shafts and reduce weight. Allegheny Performance Plastics was key in developing these new adapters for the Military. The injection molds were designed and built to exacting standards that would be able to produce parts with tolerances previously associated with metallic adapters. The spline form is supplied "as molded" with CNC machining in other areas to meet tolerance requirements. All parts are post cured in accordance with Amoco specifications, and is tested by DSC to ensure that the Tg (glass transition) meets minimum requirements. |
Allegheny Performance Plastics manufactures a range of these adapters for different applications on both fixed wing and rotary aircraft. They are generally used on PTO’s to for auxiliary equipment such as generators, oil pumps and similar.
