When injection molding with high temperature thermoplastics the equipment and tooling
is similar to that used for regular engineering thermoplastics but with some key
modifications.
It has to be designed to operate at the higher
temperatures, pressures and velocities demanded by the materials. Special alloy screws and
barrels are customized to achieve the optimum profiles required to ensure molecular
integrity is maintained for each of the selected materials. Our primary process expertise
is our ability to injection mold materials together with our understanding of how the
processing history affects the final properties of the polymer. Where necessary, pressure
accumulators are used to achieve correct injection velocities for the material. High
temperature ceramic heater bands are used on the injection barrels and molds are cooled
with high temperature oil heaters.
